Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she wants to file a federal ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, to stop “indoctrination” and “predatorial behaviour”.
Greene, a Georgia congresswoman and far-right conspiracy theorist, made the comments during an appearance on fellow conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ show Infowars.
Infowars can only be shown on Jones’ own website, as the far-right commentator has been banned from Facebook, Apple platforms, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Mailchimp, LinkedIn, Vimeo and Spotify for various violations, mostly relating to hate speech and harassment.
The pair focused on Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, which was signed by Florida governor Ron DeSantis on 28 March, but the entire 30-minute segment was dedicated to equating the existence of LGBT+ people with paedophilia.
Greene announced that she would like to replicate the bill, which bans the discussion of LGBT+ topics in classrooms, on a federal level.
“We can do legislation to protect our children,” she said.
“You know, congress makes the laws, congress funds the money that funds.. uh, agencies and different departments like the Department of Education.
“There should be no federal funding to any school anywhere that is indoctrinating children, that is teaching them that they can change their gender, that is teaching them anything sick and disgusting like this. We should stop all federal funding.”
Jones wanted confirmation, and asked: “Are you going to write a bill, are you going to introduce a bill?
“Because you’ve got the power to do it. We would all get behind a bill to pull federal funding out of any school that sexualises children.”
“Absolutely 100 per cent,” said Greene.
“I will meet with my team right after this interview and we will work on it, Alex, because I will do anything I can to protect kids.”
Greene insisted that LGBT-inclusive education has “already done damage” because “20 per cent of 18 to 32-year-olds are gay”. Greene appears to be referring to research from Gallup released in February, which revealed that 21 per cent of Gen Z adults (aged 18 to 25) identified as being part of the LGBT+ community, not as gay.
Jones added: “We should end this bullying tyranny, because the left, and all this L-G-B-T-P, is a sex cult.
“I mean, most of the cults in ancient times were sexually based, and Aleister Crowley was sex-based… It’s pure social engineering, behavioural psychology, raping their innocence, it’s disgusting.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene is currently being sued in an attempt to stop her running for reelection
Last month, bipartisan Texas-based group Free Speech for People filed a complaint on behalf of voters in Georgia, arguing that Marjorie Taylor Greene is constitutionally “ineligible” to serve in the House of Representatives, under the “Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause”.
The suit says that Greene “voluntarily aided and engaged in insurrection to obstruct the peaceful transfer of presidential power” in January, 2021, and added that “Greene’s actions and the events of January 6 provide, at a minimum, a prima facie case” for disqualification.
As well as opposing a peaceful transfer of power after Joe Biden won the 2020 US election, the Georgia congresswoman has, among many other things, touted QAnon conspiracy theories, spewed COVID misinformation, taken aim at trans youth, compared the mask mandate on the House floor to the Holocaust, described the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, as an “inside job”, and has said she does not believe in climate change or evolution.
