If you’re a healthy adult and you have never been diagnosed with a vitamin deficiency, the simple answer is NO. Numerous studies have shown that food (fruits, vegetables, poultry, fish and meat) consumed the natural way is better for you than swallowing a man-made tablet or capsule. Multivitamins have common side effects such as upset stomach, nausea, constipation, discoloration of urine and kidney stones. Most studies have not demonstrated multivitamins to be beneficial in healthy adults, the exception to this statement are pregnant women. Healthy women who are pregnant should ask their doctor about the use of prenatal vitamins, folic acid and perhaps other supplements. In addition, multivitamins are considered as a dietary supplement and are not subject to the rigorous process of review and approval by the FDA in the United States. So, if you are a healthy adult, then don’t waste your money by buying multivitamins; just put your money in your pocket and eliminate the risk of side effects which may be deleterious to your overall quality of life.
