Why This Pride Month Is Special To Us

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as “Gay Pride Day,” but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the “day” soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.

LGBTQ Pride Month 2018 means a lot to us here at PrideNation because we are celebrating our 20 year anniversary, all year long. In December 1998, PrideNation Network (PNN) launched a entertainment website specifically for the Gay & Lesbian community.

We were one of the first online media companies that not only streamed audio on the internet, but also provided entertainment specifically for the LGBTQ audience.

“We launched PNN from Palm Springs, California in a small office with two computers”, said Executive Partner Allen Edwards. “We were using technology that most consumers did not understand and/or did not have the online players to tune in. Most of the time we would hear comments like ‘good luck with that’ with looks of confusion”

Broadband finally took off and so did PNN with both radio and video programming.

As we grew each year, we kept our promise of specifically entertaining the gay & lesbian community.

Throughout the decades, PNN supported numerous LGBTQ causes and continues to provide media resources and sponsorships to organizations that make a difference for our community.

As we celebrate 2018 Pride month, we will also celebrate this special month (and year) for PNN’s 20th anniversary.
